The major stores and maintenance depot for locomotive and wagon overhaul is located at Forrestfield (WA), with major services ranging from minor services to general overhauls. Preventative maintenance, heavy repairs and wheel and bogie changes are also carried out at the Forrestfield depot. Forrestfield houses the locomotive load testing facility and paint shed, and one of the few underground wheel lathes in the state. The state of the art facility also houses pressure tank testing facilities (also located at Kalgoorlie), and a new container handling terminal. ARG's existing terminals are located at Kwinana and West Kalgoorlie.
The WA operations have an additional eight depots, Picton, Kwinana, Narngulu, Avon, Albany, Merredin, Kalgoorlie and Esperance located in regional areas that carry out running repairs to rolling stock as well as scheduled maintenance, refuelling and trip servicing.
The major facility in Queensland providing maintenance services is the Stuart Locomotive and Wagon Maintenance Depots, located 10km south of Townsville. Both depots carry out heavy and scheduled maintenance, light to heavy repairs, component exchange work, train examination, running repairs as well as supporting the provisioning/trip servicing of all arriving locomotives.
